Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a common valvular heart disease, and bileaflet MVP is a subtype of MVP that is associated with arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death123. However, bileaflet MVP is not as common as MVP in general. According to a study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association, the prevalence of MVP is estimated to be 2% to 3%5. Another study published in the International Journal of Cardiology found that 2% of patients with long QT syndrome had concomitant arrhythmogenic bileaflet MVP3. While bileaflet MVP is not as common as MVP in general, it is important to note that it can be a serious condition that requires medical attention.
